Joe Godsey begins DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia
Monday night saw Roth Motorsports pilot Joe Godsey in action at Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla.) for the 50th annual DIRTcar Nationals. With 51 Late Models on hand for the $7,000-to-win opening night feature, Joe timed in eighth fastest in his time trial group before placing seventh in his heat. On Tuesday evening, Godsey followed up the fastest time in his qualifying group with a sixth place finish in his heat. Transferring into the B-Main for another shot at the A-Main, Joe faded back to a fifth-place finish.
In a field of 51 cars on Wednesday as the remainder of the weekend shifted under the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series banner, Joe came two spots shy of a transfer position in his heat with a fifth place finish. Locking the Top 2 finishers from the B-Main into the A-Main, Godsey logged a seventh-place finish.
For the fourth round of the 50th annual DIRTcar Nationals, Godsey timed in third fastest in his qualifying group but scratched from the remainder of the program after Mother Nature delayed the event for nearly three hours.
With the field reduced to 38 cars on Friday night, Joe came in ninth in his heat, giving him one final shot at the $10,000-to-win A-Main with a B-Main appearance. Need to place in the Top 2, Godsey recorded a seventh-place outing.
Persistent rain overnight on Friday wiped out Saturday night’s finale.
